Update on Swaddle

So a few people voiced their concern over the Solution. For one, it worked, Lukka took a 2 1/2 hour nap and was cheerful and smiley when I walked into his room after he woke up--a rarity. Second, his hands were down at his side and the little guy used his 'core' to push himself onto his stomach/side. (he must have a baby 6-pack!) He was a bit more sweaty than usual, but all in all, no harm done. Today I tried Solution #2--two different lightweight blankets swaddling him the opposite ways. We'll see how it works. So far just a few cries, and then.........nothing. ((sigh)) I hope this means he's actually falling asleep instead of standing up and playing with his curtains.

Chaotic Week

Well, I have another weird-nap post. It seems these things are happening all over the place! Lukka has had 'weird-napping' status for the last week and a half (has it only been that long? It's been torture!) and this week came down with a fever that I think is related to not getting enough sleep during the day, and getting two new teeth, possibly more (he is like a faucet! Thanks J for those wonderful super absorbent {and so cute} knit bibs!). The last few days he fell asleep in the afternoon, today it was 10AM. I hate this chaotic feel when there isn't a simple routine...hopefully this is the 'sickness' speaking and when this is over (saying that with crossed fingers), he will go back to napping around 1-3, like normal.

Oh please tell me this will happen? I miss my little angel!

Recent Photos

Lukka is home sick today with a small fever. My guess is it's all that nap-less time catching up to him, because he has no other symptoms than general crankiness. However, the rest he's getting is working it's way onto me--it has definitely helped with 'the funk'. Here's a few recent photos of him...and when I figure out how to upload videos, I have a real treat.

Revenge of the Nap-Taker

Well...he took an excellent nap for one day...now we're on day two of no naps. Just talked to a friend over the phone and she said her little one did the exact same thing around the same age. I'm going to try her advice: switch him to a very regular eating schedule (3 meals a day). This made his crazy awake periods cease when I started him on solids a few months ago, too, so I am very hopefull. He has only been having one 'real' meal a day (i.e. pureed food instead of nursing) and she said to start having (after nursing) 3 meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I just started this morning with papaya for breakfast (he never got breakfast before) and then a full meal for lunch (usual is some sort of meat and a few veggies, if he's still hungry, then some fruit), and a hearty dinner, too. Lord, help me with my frustrations.

In other news, story-time is getting better at our house. My eight-month-old (today!) sits in my lap while I read, and he's beginning to like it, although for longer stories...he can only stay in one spot so long. These are a few of what I've been reading:

My Nap-Taker is Back

::Sigh::

Will I ever get this ever-changing baby thing? I found out why he wouldn't sleep for five days. Tooth #3 has made its appearance!

V. Bizarre--it's an 'eye' tooth, (aka Canine) and the other one is just about ready to pop through, too...weren't these the last of the teeth that were supposed to appear in babies? Oh well, what do I know?

These are the 'new tooth fairy'. They kinda scare me. What ever happened to putting it under your bed?
Here's a "retro photo", when he was about two weeks. He still loves that swaddle.

I am Going Crazy

So what do you do when your 8 month old decides that he doesn't want to nap in his crib anymore (or at all, for that matter) and will do the "I'm really pissed off" cry for over an hour (I refuse to get him out of the crib until an hour--i.e. I do not want him to learn that him crying means getting out of stuff he doesn't want to do). Please do not tell me that because he is sleeping 12 hours at night he "might not need a nap" because for the rest of the afternoon and evening, he is yawning, rubbing his eyes, and cranky. He is not cranky when he gets a nap in...and can still fall asleep easily at 7. This has been going on since Thursday and quite frankly, I'm fed up with him and his no-nap status. Momma needs a break,Baby Bug.

Any suggestions from tired moms?

(Edited: Phew. Minute 34...the crying has ceased for today. He's finally asleep. Good grief.

Free Things in Lincoln

I love me some free anything. Last week at my church's moms' group, someone was telling me about Lincoln Safari. I hadn't heard anything about it, but because I'm not teaching with CLC anymore, I am not up to date on free things or 'things to do' around town. However, being as Lukka will be walking within the next few months, coupled with better weather, I knew we'd be outside a lot this spring/summer/fall, so I decided I'd listen up. All ya hafta' do is sign up on the website linked above and then go to one of the 'pickup locations' to collect your items (tote bag, pencil, crayons, map, collection book, and drawing cards) and start your adventure. Anyone can sign up, you can do all of these activities in a week or the whole year--no matter. There is also a "Calendar of Events" around town all summer (usually held at local libraries) where you can use your 'drawing cards' to win BIG free things like: this, this, and this...not bad! Stefan and I love to be outside and take our dogs on walks during the spring and summer, and this is now something we can do with Lukka, too. Each spot on the map has a post with a different 'rubbing' that you're to copy into your collection book--I am really looking forward to this...or maybe I'm just really looking forward to spring. Nonetheless....FREE STUFF!

Gnome

This is something I made at Paint Yourself Silly over 2 years ago. It is just a cute little gnome reminisicent of David (does anyone get that reference?) Stefan thinks it's a bit creepy, but I think I rather like him in Lukka's room. I've often had the idea to copy Amelie Poulain in her 'gnome hiding' game, but I lack a Polaroid, and think that would be better aesthetic-wise. I did ask S for one for my birthday (in a few weeks) so we'll see. As for now, he is just sitting quietly in Lukka's room, pondering life from mid-shelf.

Lukka Stands By Himself!

This is the first time Lukka has pulled himself up using his own muscles (albeit puny). He used Stefan's trumpet case (which just sold on Ebay today!) and I thought I would take a quick picture before he fell. He just learned to crawl less than 2 weeks ago...and now standing? By himself? He is only 7 1/2 months old! I'll let you know when he starts walking!
